Issue 4 of Commune had the closest thing we’ve had yet to a cover story, Trey Sterling’s piece about prison boxing leagues, centered on Louisiana’s Angola State Penitentiary. We mixed professional photos by Frank McMains with cell phone photos and snapshots from boxers themselves to try to portray the intimate athleticism of the leagues with the lack of glory in competing behind bars.
The issue included art by Vulpes, Dianna Settles, and Sunshine Gao, and photo collages by me.
